Slate Run Living Historical Farm A Family Visit

It has been over 20 years since Nancy and I took our Granddaughter Holly, and her other Grandparents Ruth and Jack.  The place has not changed so it has brought back a lot of great memories from back in the day.   Manual Labor from Skilled Volunteers keep this farm in order and the Volunteers work the farm during the day and go home to their own place at night.  The historic farm looks and feels like the 1880's.  Thanks for visiting the blog and hope you enjoy the pictures of the walking tour.  Our next blog will be the Slate Run Five Oaks Trail walk.   Great place for people and dogs alike.

Land was sold in 1964 , by the White Family, to the Slate
Run Metro Park

1981  The year the park was open to the public

Sheep in the Apple Orchard

Field at the entrance.  See the barn through the trees?

Just farm stuff hanging in the barn.  Like most farmers
you hang on to what you have, as you never know
when you will need it again.

More farm stuff, but not sure what it is. Do You?

Blue Bird Houses are staged throughout the park

Just a pile of bones found on the farm.  Interesting!

These kittens were dropped off at the farm by unknown
people.  Just like the ole days. Hopefully some
visitor will adopt.

Homemade Checkers.  Sorry for the off focus.

Pasture Fence.  With this construction animals inside the fence
will not harm themselves if they break the fence. Notice the
boards are constructed to break outward.

Farm Garden.  Not sure this would be fun to grow but would
be great tasting if you put them on the table

Neat gate. Notice a human can go through but the
pasture is always secure as the gate only goes
so far

This is a very gentle horse and very very big.  Nancy
enjoyed petting this beautiful animal

This is a working farm and this is an example
of 1 Horsepower to do work

Put this horse with the other, harness to a ole implement, and
they are ready to go do whatever needs to be done

After Work it is feed and nap time. All these animals
came be petted, talked to and just otherwise enjoy their company

This ironing board looks much like the ones today.
